What is Giftling?

Giftling keeps track of gifts for the people you care about: a list for each person, ideas you save when you think of them, and dates such as birthdays so they show up before the day arrives.

Where is my information stored?

On your device, and in your own iCloud through CloudKit. Giftling does not run a server that holds your lists. Your private database holds your own records. The shared database holds households that have been shared with you, and the household you share.

Do I need a Giftling account?

No. The app uses the iCloud account already signed in on your iPhone. There is no email sign-in and no Giftling password. iCloud has to be available for sync and sharing.

How do I share with my family?

Share the household from the app. Apple’s iCloud sharing sheet is where you invite people and where you stop sharing. People you invite need their own iCloud account. They see and can change the shared household, within the permission you set.

How do I keep a gift a surprise?

Mark that person private. Gift ideas and gifts for someone marked private stay in your private iCloud database, so they are not part of the shared household.

Does Giftling read my contacts?

Only if you pick someone from the system contact picker. The picker returns the contacts you select. Giftling does not ask for access to your whole address book.

How do I delete my information?

Delete people, ideas, gifts, and events in the app. To remove what iCloud still holds, use your Apple ID settings for the app’s iCloud data. Email contact@giftling.app if you need help finding those steps. We cannot delete iCloud data from a Giftling server, because there isn’t one.

Is the app on the App Store?

Not yet. The button on the home page is a placeholder, not a download link. This page, giftling.app/support, is the support URL for the app.
