In short
- Giftling is an iPhone app for keeping track of gifts. It does not create a Giftling account, and it does not run a server that stores your lists.
- What you enter is saved on your device and in your own iCloud, using CloudKit. A private database holds your data. A shared database holds households other people have shared with you.
- Sharing a household uses iCloud sharing. You choose who to invite, and you can stop sharing in the app.
- This website is a static page. It does not use an analytics or advertising tool, and it does not set tracking cookies.
- Questions go to contact@giftling.app.
1. Who we are
Giftling is operated by Marcus Twichel (“Giftling,” “we,” “us”). This policy covers the Giftling iOS app and the website at giftling.app. It does not cover Apple’s iCloud service, or other apps and websites you open on your own.
2. What you enter in the app
The app stores the gift-planning information you type or import, which can include:
- names of people, relationships, and dates such as birthdays and anniversaries
- gift ideas and gifts, including notes you add
- events, and a household you may share
- which person in the household is you
That information is kept so the app can show it to you and, for a household you share, to the people you invite.
3. Where that information lives
Giftling uses Core Data on your device and syncs through CloudKit in the iCloud container iCloud.com.marcustwichel.giftling. There are two stores:
- Private database. Your own records, including anything you have marked private. Gift ideas and gifts for a person you mark private stay in this database, so they are not part of the shared household.
- Shared database. Records from iCloud shares you have accepted, and the household you have shared with other iCloud users.
Apple stores and syncs that iCloud data under Apple’s terms. Giftling does not keep a separate copy on a server of its own. We do not receive your Apple ID password.
4. iCloud sharing
When you share a household, the app uses Apple’s iCloud sharing sheet. You choose the participants and the permission Apple offers for that share. People you invite can see and change the shared household, within that permission. You can stop sharing from the same sheet.
A person, gift idea, or gift you mark private stays in your private database and is not moved into the share.
5. Contacts
You can add a person from the system contact picker. That picker runs outside the app and returns only the contacts you select. Giftling does not request access to your address book, and it does not upload your contacts.
6. This website
giftling.app is static HTML and CSS. It does not ask you to sign in, does not load an analytics, advertising, or session-replay tool, and does not set tracking cookies. Your browser may still store ordinary technical data on its own. If you email us, we receive whatever you put in that message, and we use it to reply.
7. What Giftling does not collect
Giftling does not offer email sign-in, photo upload, or a gift-claiming service. It does not sell personal information, and it does not use your lists to advertise other companies’ products.
8. How long information is kept
Information stays in the app and in your iCloud until you delete it there, stop sharing a household, or remove the app’s iCloud data through Apple. Because Giftling does not hold a separate copy, deleting it in the app and in iCloud is what removes it. Email we receive is kept long enough to handle the message.
9. Your choices
You can edit or delete people, ideas, gifts, and events in the app, mark someone private, and stop an iCloud share. You can also manage or delete iCloud data in your Apple ID settings.
If a privacy law gives you a right to access, correct, or delete personal information, email contact@giftling.app. We will help with what we actually have, which is correspondence you send us. The lists themselves are in your iCloud, and Apple is the provider for that storage.
10. Children
Giftling is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has sent us personal information, email us and we will delete that message.
11. Security
Sync and sharing rely on Apple’s iCloud protections and on the security of your device and Apple ID. No way of storing or sending information is perfectly secure.
12. International processing
We are based in the United States. iCloud data is processed by Apple in the regions Apple uses for your account. Email you send us is handled in the United States.
13. Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top and post the new version on this website.
